DESCRIPTION:This year\, the Nelson and District Chamber of Commerce is once again inviting residents and visitors to celebrate Canada’s birthday at one of the region’s most picturesque gathering places at Lakeside Park on Nelson’s waterfront. \nThe festivities begin at 10 am with members of the Sinixt Confederacy arriving by canoe on the shores of Lakeside Park\, a powerful opening to a day rooted in community\, culture and celebration. The 10:30 am opening ceremonies will include speeches from community leaders and the singing of O Canada. \nAfter the 10:45 a.m. Sinixt drum circle\, attendees can take part in one of Nelson’s sweetest traditions as volunteers serve slices of the giant Canada flag cake to the public\, a beloved tradition that typically disappears within minutes. \nThroughout the day\, live music will provide the soundtrack for celebrations in the shaded heart of the park while local businesses\, organizations and community groups offer activities\, games\, face painting\, crafts and interactive displays for visitors of all ages. \nCanada Day food offerings begin on Baker Street with the annual Lions Club breakfast\, running from 8-11 a.m. Down at the park\, the Rose Garden Cafe will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Members of the Nelson Rotary Club will once again be serving up barbecue at the Lakeside Rotary Shelter between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. \nAs evening arrives\, attention will turn skyward for the Canada Day fireworks display\, lighting up the night above Nelson’s waterfront and bringing another memorable celebration to a close.

UCPiP provides international accompaniers who utilize specialized skills to reduce violence and protect Palestinian civilians from harm perpetrated by Illegal Israeli settlements. Operating with a foundation of nonviolence\, UCPiP also engages in international advocacy to raise awareness of the worsening human rights situation for Palestinian living in the West Bank.\nCurrently\, seven volunteers are being supported to provide protective presence in the Jordan Valley which is being targeted by illegal Israeli settlers. DESCRIPTION:Vancouver-based musician\, Cyrus Jordan\, is a young songwriter\, producer\, and multi-instrumentalist who picked up an upright bass in his early years and has since expanded his love of music into a multi-faceted pursuit of creative expression. \nBlending his Southern American and Indo-Caribbean roots\, Cyrus funnels the world around him into an abstract depiction of complex relationships and self-discovery. His music weaves heavy bass grooves with electronic stylings\, creating ethereal vibrations reminiscent of a Sunday morning. \nWhether working on his own project\, producing\, or playing in bands\, Cyrus takes inspiration from jazz\, funk\, soul\, and electronic stylings which he honed during his time in Boston at the Berklee summer intensive and as a working musician\, DJ and student at the Concordia University Jazz Performance program in Montreal.
