DESCRIPTION:Join us for a night where the beats of liberation reverberate throughout the room\, & a kaleidoscope of color\, love\, rhythm\, & resistance lifts our bodies\, minds & spirits. MIDNIGHT AFFAIR is a celebration of the history of disco as both a musical revolution & political movement. From its roots in the underground clubs of NYC to its role empowering Black\, Latino & LGBTQ+ communities\, this party honors disco as a sanctuary of inclusiveness & resistance against oppression. \nDisco was born in the late 60s & gained popularity in the 70s as a response to racism\, homophobia & economic hardship. Emerging from the Stonewall Riots & Civil Rights Movements\, discotheques became a space where marginalized groups could express themselves freely. Clubs like The Loft & Paradise Garage were more than just dance floors—they were safe havens where identities were celebrated & bigotry was left at the door. Disco’s pulsating rhythms & euphoric melodies were acts of defiance\, blending Black music traditions with futuristic sounds to create anthems of joy & resilience. Despite disco’s rise being met with racist\, sexist & homophobic backlash\, its influence persisted\, laying the foundation for dance music genres like house & techno. \nThis party is more than just a celebration. It’s a tribute to the resilience of communities that resist through music. By dancing & expressing our joy authentically\, we honour the pioneers who fought for freedom through rhythm & joy.
